Jack Tipple’s New Delicious Summer Wines

Domain Tempier Bandol Rose – “Located in the heart of the Bandol terrior, Domaine Tempier was already in existence during the reign of Louis XV (1715-74). The house was built in 1834 and the estate gained recognition in 1885 when it won its first gold medal. The architect of this rebirth in the wake of the phylloxera epidemic that had devastated France’s vineyards was Leonie Tempier, who replanted the vines on rootstocks and in 1880 had a barrel cellar and cement fermentation tanks built. The grapes used for this rosé come from selected parcels where the vines are on average 20 years old. The yields are low, which explains the intense concentration and distinct expression of each varietal in this wine. The presence of Mourvedre gives this wine its strong character, balance and complexity.”

Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre -”There is perhaps no better match for a dozen oysters than this minerally Sancerre from one of the best producers in the region. Textbook Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc, with bright acidity, smoke, citrus and grassiness. Insanely addictive and so so good with shellfish it’s almost sick! 90 points Wine Spectator: “Mouthwatering from start to finish, boasting bright floral and lemon zest notes up front, followed by pink grapefruit, quince and salted butter notes that extend through the finish. Ripe, but bright and lacy, with lovely detail.”

Pazo de Gallegos Albarino – “This 100% Albariño is a truly distinctive and expressive wine coming from low-yielding vines. Through the use of partial malolactic fermentation this wine exhibits greater freshness and aromatic expression. This straw-colored wine boasts aromas of green apple, light citrus, and floral undertones. On the palate this wine is the epitome of freshness with a lightly tart expression of that same green apple and citrus. The somewhat higher acidity is cause for celebration as this wine will pair wonderfully with any number of spicy or richer foods.”

Domaine Serene “R” Rose – “The barrel-aged, terroir driven “R” Rosé gracefully balances elegance and earthiness with soft tannins, abundant acidity, and rich, luscious red fruit. Cherries, raspberries, and a hint of sage form a creamy richness on the palate, while texture and grip, imparted by the soil, create a lasting, concentrated full-bodied rosé that will delight red and white wine lovers alike, and rescue you from any food-pairing quandary. The art of blending is a hallmark of Domaine Serene and one of the most important steps in making wines of distinct and unique character. Sourcing the finest grapes from the best vineyards paired with a meticulous blending style leads to wines of impeccable balance, distinctive personality and consistent quality from year to year. Using the best barrels and best lots from our vineyards (50% Willamette Valley, 10% Walla Walla, and 40% Rogue Valley) we craft the “perfect Rosé”, and only then can it be labeled “R”. Experience the art of the blend in this unique, barrel-aged rosé created from the same pedigree as the Domaine Serene wines you already know and love.”
