New Italian Wines

2011 Morisfarms Morellino di Scansano90 Points Stephen Tanzer  – “Deep ruby-red. Begins with slightly reduced aromas of dark plum, violet and licorice, along with intense notes of underbrush and cloves, but brightens with aeration. Densely packed but youthfully imploded, with a saline quality to the very expressive dark fruit flavors. Finishes pure, clean and long, with no shortage of energy and plenty of early-drinking appeal. No oak.”

2011 Morisfarms Vermentino – “It’s hard to put a finger on Vermentino as it is somewhere between a Pinot Gris and a Sauvignon Blanc and very Italian. When you taste it, the Tuscan sun shines through! Quite intense with aromas and flavors of apple, pear and peach and a hint of almond. Clean and crisp, it is a lovely wine for the season.”

2004 Roagna Langhe Rosso – “Made from 100% Nebbiolo. It is like a baby Barolo made in a young style that is meant to be consumed now but still has the potential to be put down for a while”

2011 Elio Altare Dolcetto d’Alba “Dry but soft, delicate tannins, full taste of cherries and black cherry. Medium-bodied, easy drinking to be appreciated in the summer months, served a little chilled, In Italy it is considered an excellent everyday wine.”
