Beer and Cheese Tasting – April 6th, 2015

Join us on Monday, April 6th at 7 pm as we taste through eight delicious beers each paired with a different cheese. The tasting will be held in class format and guided by the Bearded Taster, Andy Bielecki.

Admission is $45 per person and must be made in advance at Tipple’s or by phone (352-672-6303). Sorry, no refunds or cancellations, please make sure you can attend before signing up! You will be consuming alcohol so please arrange for a safe ride home.

In addition to the featured beers and cheeses your admission includes a souvenir beer glass and 10% off most items in the store.

Goose Island Sofie with Marin French Triple Creme Brie

About the Beer: This Belgian Farmhouse style ale is aged in wine barrels with an abundance of hand zested orange peel. Spicy white pepper notes contrast the citrus tartness. It finishes light and refreshing with creamy vanilla notes

About the Cheese: Rich and smooth texture with a slightly sweet flavor and blooming with fluffy white rind, Marin French Triple Crème Brie reflects the high quality milk from neighboring Marin County dairies.

Oude (Gueuze Tilquin)2 with Rosenborg Camembert

About the Beer: (Gueuze Tilquin)2 is made from a blend of 1, 2, and 3 year old lambic aged in oak barrels. Due to oversaturation in the bottle, the beer was put back into oak barrels and then bottled for a second time.

About the Cheese: Round, full and slightly tangy, with a slight undertone of ammonia and creamy consistency.

De Ranke XX Bitter with New Bridge Extra Sharp  2 Year New York Cheddar

About the Beer: XX Bitter (or Extra Extra Bitter) is a blonde, bitter ale made with pale pilsner malt and loads of Brewers Gold and Hallertau hop flowers.

About the Cheese: Aged cheddar cheeses range from mild — nutty, and creamy – to extra sharp – rich and robust depending upon its age. This cheddar is aged for two years, giving it a nice balance between a sharp flavor, while keeping a creamy, smooth texture.

Baird Beer Angry Boy with Grand Cru Gruyere

About the Beer: Beneath the cool facade of the warrior, a red-hot flame of intensity, determination, and, yes, anger burns. So it is with this unpredictable Brown Ale; fleeting malty sweetness and warmth hide complexity, barely controlled bitterness, and a bit of an angry edge.

About the Cheese:

Amager Rye Porter with Excalibur Red Leicester

About the Beer: Amager Rye Porter is made with hard roasted malts and 16% rye. The rye adds a fantastic sweetness and titillating spicy edge which combined with a subtle and balanced acidity is reminiscent of rye bread.

About the Cheese: Red Leicester is a mellow flavored cow’s milk cheese with a tangy aftertaste. It has a firm body but a flaky texture.

Samichlaus Barrique with Beecher’s Smoked Flagship

About the Beer: Here we have Samichlaus Original that has seen special treatment in Chardonnay barrels from the Anton Bauer Vineyards in Feuersbrunn.

About the Cheese: Fifteen months of aging nurtures the flavor and texture of Flagship to perfections. The cheese is then naturally smoked over a distinctive blend of apple and cherry wood, resulting in Flagship’s signature robust and nutty flavor infused with the heady, fruity essence of natural hardwood smoke.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA with Amablu Gorgonzola

About the Beer: Too extreme to be called beer? 120 Minute IPA is brewed colossal 45 degree plato, boiled for a full two hours while being continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry hopped daily in the fermenter for a month and aged another month on whole leaf hops!

About the Cheese: Cave aged for a minimum of ninety days, the cheese is somewhat sharper in flavor but less acidic rendering a slightly sweeter profile.

Rochefort Trappistes 10 with Long Clawson Blueberry Stilton

About the Beer: This dark brown beer showcases great strength balanced by a complexity of flavors and firm malt backbone. The bouquet covers a wide range: port wine, leather, apricots, oaks, and spices – a deeply intriguing beverage.

About the Cheese: Traditionally-made White Stilton is blended with soft blueberries for a visually striking dessert cheese. The sharp fruit punctuates the mild cheese to create a delicate flavor and fresh aroma.
