Jack Tipple’s Thanksgiving Wine Picks

2013 Schug Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
90 Points Wine Enthusiast – “Wet stone and a chalky underbelly of crisp, clean and low-oaked fruit entices in this food-friendly wine, elegant in lemon, lime and green apple. Juicy and well-rounded, it’s an easily enjoyable wine at a fair price that will please a range of palates. Editors’ Choice”

2013 Michael David Petite Petit
90 Points Wine Advocate – “Another consistent success from this Lodi producer is the 2013 Petite Petit, a blend of 85% Petite Sirah and 15% Petit Verdot. They make 80,000 cases of this wine, which probably takes much of the production of Petite Sirah out of the Lodi AVA. An outstanding wine with gorgeous aromatics of incense, blueberry liqueur, camphor and blackberry, the wine hits the palate with a full-bodied, thunderous inky feel to it, great fruit purity, amazingly supple, velvety tannins for Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, and a long finish. This is another wine that over-delivers in a big way.”

2014 Schug Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Winemakers Notes – “This 100% Pinot Noir cuvee is from grapes grown within the cool micro-climate of the Sonoma Coast AVA, on select vineyards in the western portion of Carneros and the Petaluma Gap. The cool windy climate and low yield of these vineyards allow Pinot Noir grapes to mature slowly while retaining their natural acidity, with bright flavors of red cherries, raspberries and spice. We showcase the elegant side of Pinot Noir by aging in large neutral oak casks and older French oak barrels to keep new oak flavors to a minimum.”
