The Featured Wines

2011 Mercer Sharp Sisters Red Blend

Winemaker’s Notes: The Sharp Sisters Red Blend is crafted in a New World style with the same artistry and craftsmanship Mercer Estates utilizes in their award-winning portfolio of wines. This wine is fun, forward and meant to be enjoyed among family and friends, just as Carma Sharp-Mercer and her sisters would have wanted.Washington Merlot is supple but retains its structure and minerality due to the cooler climate. This is why it was selected to be the main component of this voluptuous blend being paired up with Syrah and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. This blend shows a beautiful nose of concentrated ripe black cherry and blueberry with a touch of vanilla and baking spices. The ripe fruit combined with sleek tannins create a wine that is powerful, yet elegant. The ripe flavors in the mouth lead into a soft, lingering finish with a touch of bright acidity.

2012 Baer Ursa

94 Points Wine Spectator: The core glows with ripe blackberry, dark plum, mint and floral flavors, gliding over lightly prickly tannins into the long and compelling finish. Feels almost weightless, but has tremendous depth. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2020.

2013 Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha

90 Points Wine Advocate: The 2013 Tres Picos is the bodegas top cuvée of 100% Grenache from older, head-pruned vines planted on the hillsides of the Moncayo Mountains. Yields were less than two tons of fruit per acre. This was the first of the Grenaches to spend some time in a combination of older French oak barrels (for 10 months) as well as stainless steel. There are 6,000 cases of this outstanding wine. Its dense ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by notes of kirsch liqueur, licorice, pepper and spice box, and a medium to full-bodied, richly fruity, sensual wine with beautiful finesse, complexity and purity. Sometimes Grenache can take on a complex, Pinot Noir-like sensitivity, and this cuvée appears to have done that. Consumers should take advantage of these lovely wines offered at ridiculously low prices.

2013 Turley Old Vine Zinfandel

Winemaker’s Notes: The 2013 Zinfandel Old Vines is dark, pliant and expressive, with fabulous depth and overall balance. Black cherry, plum, mocha, and exotic spices flesh out on the inviting, generous finish. This is another compelling Zinfandel that overdelivers for the price in a big way.

1,000 Stories Bourbon Barrel Aged Zinfandel

Winemaker’s Notes: 1,000 Stories is produced in small batches, much like premium bourbon. Select parcels of Zinfandel were sourced from Mendocino County, some of which came from vineyards with family histories dating back to the 1880’s. Each individual lot started the ageing process in traditional American and French wine barrels. The next step was the introduction of the wine to bourbon barrels. Part of the blend was aged in new bourbon barrels from the Independent Stave Company. This process is similar to ageing in wine barrels, but with a flavor profile unique to the charred bourbon barrels – vanilla, dried herbs and a hint of caramel. The final step of the process was the most grand: the blend completed its barrel ageing in old bourbon barrels from famed distilleries such as Heaven Hill and Four Roses. Some of these barrels were 13 year old, single-use barrels, used to make the highest quality bourbon.

2014 Barnard Griffin Fume Blanc

Winemaker’s Notes: Sauvignon Blanc in Washington has enough herbal identity to be intriguing and enough tropical fruit character to be fruity and pleasant. Our many years of practice blending Semillon in with our Sauvignon Blanc have created a style that exhibits richness and enhanced longevity. Our 2014 opens with a range of dynamic orange, lime and mango flavors and aromas, shaded with sage and flint overtones. Has just the right amount of mouth-cleansing acidity and pizzazz to pair well with shellfish and light cheeses.

Segura Viudas Cava Brut Rose

Winemaker’s Notes: A luminous, light strawberry pink with hints of salmon, a pale rim, and a fine, abundant mousse that rises to an elegant crown. Youthful fruit aromas of strawberry, redcurrant and pomegranate lead to a refreshing palate full of cherry fruit and a light acidity. A soft finish on the back of the palate gives a lovely, approachable balance to this very dry and drinkable cava.

2015 Silverado Miller Ranch Sauvignon Blanc

Winemaker’s Notes: These Sauvignon Blanc vines are rooted in a special site between Hopper Creek and the Napa River. Blessed with deep soil, Miller Ranch is also in a climate sweet spot: cool enough in the morning to give the wine refreshing aromas of grapefruit, lime and tangerine; warm enough in the afternoon to give the wine a smooth silky texture and a juicy finish.
