The Featured Wines

2014 Charles Smith Kung Fu Girl Riesling

90 Points Robert Parker: Always delicious, as well as an insane value, the 2014 Riesling Kung Fu Girl offers lots of exotic citrus, lychee and minty notes in a medium-bodied, delicious, vibrant profile on the palate. Downright gulpable, yet with plenty of classic Riesling flair, buy this beauty by the case and drink it over the coming year or so.

2014 E Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rose

90 Points Wine Advocate: One of the best rosés is Guigal’s 2014 Cotes du Rhone Rose, which checks in as a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and 10% Syrah. Sporting a lighter raspberry color (this cuvee normally has a slightly darker color), it gives up lots of sweet cherry, strawberry, honeysuckle and Provencal herb characteristics to go with a medium-bodied, rounded, beautifully supple and textured feel on the palate. This is a classic Cotes du Rhone that has both freshness and texture.

2013 Elouan Pinot Noir

Winemaker’s Notes: Elouan Pinot Noir emulates the successful sourcing philosophy introduced with Meiomi: blending the top Pinot Noir regions together for a richer, more complex style than what you could achieve by sourcing from one small area. In this instance, the grapes are grown in the great Oregon Valleys of Willamette, Umpqua and Rogue. The diversity of these cool climate areas elongates the growing season, developing intense structure, while maintaining a vibrant acidity to differentiate it from any California Pinot Noir.

2013 Kaiken Ultra Malbec

90 Points Wine Spectator: The Malbec Ultra 2013, with its fresh, elegant notes, is the outstanding outcome of a season characterized by rather low summer temperatures. It’s brilliant, deep ruby-red, with a wonderful display of rich aromas. The nose is enticing and spicy; a clear expression of a cool year. Black fruit aromas reminiscent of blueberries and blackberries show this wine’s great typicity. Good structure and soft tannins lead to a finish that is fresh, complex, and long, with fruit notes and subtle undertones of rosemary, thyme, and dry flowers.

2011 Bodegas Muga Reserva

91 Points Robert Parker: It is a Rioja that mixes the traditional and modern character with ripe fruit and contains oak aromas that are quite spicy and have some toast and smoke that should integrate with a bit of time in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied, has clean flavors that are balanced with sweet tannins. This is easy to drink, pleasant but not banal, and delivers a lot for its price. An impressive half-million bottles are produced of this wine, which is sold as Crianza in Spain and as Reserva in the rest of the world. Year after year, one of the most reliable and affordable Reservas.

2010 Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Apalta Vineyard Syrah

92 Points Wine Spectator: A well-spiced style, offering an engaging floral aroma, with ripe dark fruit flavors that are deep and rich. Presents notes of mocha and chocolate midpalate, with a plush, seductive finish of dark cherry, Asian spice and cream. Very seductive.

2013 Charles Smith Boom Boom Syrah

90 Points Wine Spectator: Fresh, lively and sleek, with red berry, raspberry and spice box flavors in a neat package, lingering expressively. Aromas of fresh picked herbs and wet earth. Rich black cherry and tobacco are followed by hints of lavender on the long finish. This Syrah is truly the bomb!

2011 Chateau de Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhones Les Deux Albion

92 Points Robert Parker: This cuvee always includes a small amount of white Clairette co-fermented with red grapes such as Grenache and Syrah. There is more Syrah in the 2011 than usual because it was essential for the success of this medium-bodied, deep ruby/plum/purple-colored effort. It possesses notes of spring flowers, black fruits, licorice, forest floor and spice. It is another brilliant example of this cuvee.
