The Featured Wines

2014 Archery Summit Vireton Pinot Gris

Winemaker’s Notes: The 2014 vintage produced a wine that is poised, with a round center and bright finish. The bouquet exhibits enticing aromas of honeysuckle, ripe cantaloupe, citrus blossom, lemongrass and flint. Opening with juicy notes of Asian pear, Key lime and honeydew melon, the palate exhibits a lively, fresh mouthfeel. Subtle undertones of citrus, spice drops and a distinctive minerality linger on the clean, lasting finish.

2014 Patient Cottat le Grand Caillou Sauvignon Blanc

Winemaker’s Notes: A dry, fresh and sharp white wine with a powerful aroma. It has a particular flavor with notes of barrel, currant bushes in bud, table grapes and passion fruits. It accompanies perfectly oysters, seafood, cooked pork such as the “rillettes” or goat’s milk cheese.

2013 Calera Chardonnay

92 Points Wine Enthusiast: The nose on this wine from nine vineyards ranging from Santa Clara to Santa Barbara reflects much of what the large appellation offers, but in subtle ways: touches of Golden Delicious apples, grilled pineapple, toasted coconut and chalk. The flavors surround a Meyer lemon zest tension, with apple flesh fruits and a zesty acidity that holds throughout without biting.

90 Points Wine Spectator: Clean, pure and juicy, with a refreshing mix of ripe pear, apple and melon flavors, shaded by a chalky minerality. Offers a long, lingering finish.

2013 Adelsheim Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Winemaker’s Notes: With its broad array of origins and clones, this wine displays red aromas of candied cherry, pomegranate and raspberry on the nose and the palate. In addition, one finds a light touch of brown spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, all-spice. True to our house style, it is elegantly textured with seamlessly integrated, silky, polished tannins. Pair it with salmon, ahi, veal, pork, poultry (think duck), beef or hearty vegetarian entrees.

2013 Moris Farms Morellino di Scansano

Winemaker’s Notes: Deep ruby-red. Begins with slightly reduced aromas of dark plum, violet and licorice, along with intense notes of underbrush and cloves, but brightens with aeration. Densely packed but youthfully imploded, with a saline quality to the very expressive dark fruit flavors. Finishes pure, clean and long, with no shortage of energy.

2014 Southern Right Pinotage

91 Points Robert Parker: The 2014 Pinotage has a clean black plum, blueberry and violet-scented bouquet that is nicely defined and pure. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a clean line of acidity, precise with a fresh blackberry and saline finish that lingers in the mouth. It is linear at the moment, but will soften and gain more flesh in bottle. Overall, a very well crafted and promising Pinotage.

90 Points Wine Spectator: Distinctive, this offers a lovely mint note, backed by pure raspberry and damson plum coulis flavors that streak along, all carried by finely beaded acidity. A pure, racy version, atypical for this varietal.

2011 Burgess Napa Valley Syrah

Winemaker’s Notes: Bright aroma of blackberry, roses, raspberry, and bourbon vanilla. The gorgeous aroma is followed by a rich & lively palate of blackberry, boysenberry, strawberry, and cherry. Long cherry cider and raspberry finish.

2013 Descendientes de Jose Palacios Petalus del Bierzo

92 Points Robert Parker: Always among the best values of Spain, the 2013 Pétalos del Bierzo has an extra degree of freshness in a cool vintage, and some time in bottle always does this wine wonders. It’s aromatic, open and expressive, with floral aromas and bright fruit, wild strawberries and violets. This is always a subtle, medium-bodied wine, with fine tannins, sleek acidity and a fine minerality.

91 Points Wine Spectator: Expressive flavors of black cherry, currant, licorice, mineral and smoke mingle in this focused red. The texture is gentle but firm, with well-integrated tannins and racy acidity providing structure. A compact wine that shows good intensity.
