Jack Tipple’s Beer Tasting of Miscellany – August 29, 2016

Join us on Monday, August 29th at 7 pm for another beer tasting! We will be sampling ten different beers, some light and refreshing, others dark and filling, and at least one that tastes like a tasty treat.

Admission is $30 per person and tickets must be purchased in advance at Tipple’s or by phone (352-672-6303). Sorry, no refunds or cancellations, please make sure you can attend before signing up!

You will be consuming some delicious beers so please arrange for a safe ride home.

In addition to samples of the featured beers your admission includes a souvenir beer glass and 10% off most items in the store.

The Featured Beers in No Particular Order:

Blaugies Saison d’Epeautre (Saison-6%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat. It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

The Bruery  Share This: Coffee (Imperial Stout-11.9%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Let’s move beyond the concept of grabbing a beer, and reach for something bigger. This is a journey that transcends beer as we know it. Share This is a new series of beers that fills us with both satisfaction and pride in our ongoing exploration of what we can achieve with beer. Each release in this series will spotlight unique ingredients and an important cause. Share This: Coffee is an imperial stout with freshly-roasted coffee sourced by Mostra Coffee from the Philippines. For each bottle we produce, Free Wheelchair Mission receives one dollar, in turn, helping friends in the Philippines become mobile for the first time.

Jolly Pumpkin Inicios Nuevos (Saison-5.1%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Inicios Nuevos is a tart saison barrel-aged for two months on hand-pitted California Angelino plums. Over ten pounds per barrel were used lending a deep plum color with intriguing plum and tart citrus notes in the aroma and flavor.

Funky Buddha Sticky Treats (Blonde Ale-5.1%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Get ready to ‘mallow out, dude! Our zonked out brewer trio of Snarf, Crumble, and Ping have layered this blonde ale with plenty of gooey, marshmallow flavor for a beer that tastes just like your favorite rice cereal treat. So sit back in your coziest corduroy chair and switch gears – no baking required.

Avery Vanilla Bean Stout (Imperial Stout-11.5%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: A double dose of vanilla derived from both fresh Bourbon barrels and the trio of Tongan, Ugandan, and Mexican whole vanilla beans is complemented by essences of chocolate, caramel, and molasses to round out this luxuriously silky stout. After Raspberry Sour, this is the 2nd installment of Avery’s Botanicals & Barrels series.

The Bruery Trade Winds (Tripel-8.6%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening.

North Coast 2014 Old Stock Cellar Reserve: Wheat Whiskey (Old  Ale-14.44%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Old Stock Cellar Reserve is a small batch, limited release that has been aged in wheat whiskey barrels. The aging process gives this world class beer an added layer of complexity. A memorable drink that should be enjoyed as a completely unique offering.

North Coast 2014 Old Stock Cellar Reserve: Rye Whiskey (Old Ale-13.75%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Old Stock Cellar Reserve is a small batch, limited release that has been aged in rye whiskey … barrels. The aging process gives this world-class beer added layers of complexity and flavor. A memorable drink that should be enjoyed as a unique offering.

Brasserie Dupont and The Lost Abbey Deux Amis (Saison-7%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Brewed in Belgium using techniques perfected over almost a hundred years, Deux Amis receives its decidedly state-side flavor from the addition of American Amarillo and Simcoe hops. The result of this kinship is a dry, refreshing Old World Saison full of peppery spice that finishes with New World flavors of floral orange and earthy pine.

The Bruery Bourbon Barrel Aged Poterie (Old Ale-16.8%)

Brewmaster’s Notes: Poterie is French for “pottery”, the traditional eight-year anniversary gift. Our eighth anniversary ale, Poterie, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale, fermented with our house yeast strain and then blended using the solera method. This means that a portion of each anniversary ale is saved in oak barrels and blended in with the next year’s production, providing more complexity and depth of character as the years go by. The result is layered in robust and complex flavors of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla and oak. Poterie will age gracefully for decades when cellared properly.
