About Hourglass Brewing
Founded in 2012 in a small outbuilding behind a massage parlor with seating for 12, Hourglass is the embodiment of humble beginnings. The dream of two friends that began brewing on their back porch, funded by the sales of toy collections, musical equipment, and some family help; we take pride in our small business approach, familial aspirations, and our slightly tongue in cheek status as the “Oldest brewery in Longwood, FL”.
We aim to make world class beer, utilizing the best of local and exotic ingredients from across the globe, with an emphasis on turning outlandish ideas into nuanced, drinkable brews.
Here at Hourglass Brewing we take pride in the craftsmanship of our work. We believe in doing things the right way, no matter how difficult that may be. That means we never use any kind of malt, hop, or flavor extracts. If there is a specific flavor or aroma we want present in one of our beers, we will search high and low to figure out how to make it work, using only natural ingredients. Each and every aspect of each and every beer is hand selected from trusted suppliers, both locally and internationally. We are obsessed with finding the perfect ingredient every time – from locally grown tropical fruits, to Indian and South American herbs, hops from Africa and Japan, or malt from Chile and Scotland – ensuring you always get the best glass of beer possible.
Our spacious 240 seat tap room is uniquely decorated with nostalgic remembrances, geek culture, and the work of local artists. Stacked with table top and console games for free play, we also host frequent live music and comedy nights. Come grab a pint and relax on our dog friendly patio or take a peek behind the glass walled brew house to observe the daily brew process. One visit and you’ll see the Hourglass taproom is as distinct as the beers that are poured here.
Hourglass Brewing is the proud home of an extensive barrel aging program. With several different projects going at any one time, we strive to use our temperature and humidity controlled barrel “cellar” to bring new and exciting beers to the Florida craft beer market. Having already produced such fan favorites as Giant Giant Dwarf (a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with coffee, vanilla, and cherries), Cloudberry Farmhouse (a white wine cask aged farmhouse ale with cloudberries). And Stormgazer (a rum barrel aged English dark Barleywine with roasted ginger and lime), you can be sure that we constantly have something new and exciting aging its way to perfection.
At Hourglass, we have long been fans of sour and wild ales, and as we expand we are releasing our own take on these styles under the name Sourglass Brewing. Sourglass includes all of our foeder fermented farmhouse ales, our stainless aged wild ales, and our barrel fermented sour beers. Expect these beers to push the envelope, utilizing specially selected blends of yeast and bacteria, as well as the best local and foreign ingredients. This is a passion project for the Hourglass crew which we hope you’ll love as much as we do!
