Jack Tipple’s Aussie Wine Tasting-Monday, October 1, 2018

Join us on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 7-9pm, to sample 10 different Australian wines, and experience the wonders of the wines from down under.

In addition to the featured wines, your admission includes a light Hors d’Oeuvres & a Riedel Wine glass. 

The Featured Wines

Yalumba Y Series Viognier: Bright straw in color with green hues, the Y Series Viognier has aromas of orange blossom and fresh ginger, with hints of honeysuckle and white flowers. Fresh pineapple, Chinese white tea and dried figs lead into a creamy mid palate with a silky finish.

MadFish Sauvignon Blanc Semillion: The racy, vibrant blend of this MadFish Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is the essence of everything good about Western Australia and our special coastal vineyards. Two great grapes harmoniously combined to produce a riotously fresh, fragrant and friendly wine. The pairing of these two famous grape varieties has, over time, evolved into the region’s signature white wine! Sauvignon is the star of the show. Upfront, fresh, lovely, highly aromatic, very showy. Semillon, on the other hand, is all about weight and viscosity, length and structure. The more reserved character, behind the scene, holding the show together.

Pewsey Vale Riesling: Very pale in color with green hues; the aroma has hints of the classic Pewsey Vale Vineyard Riesling characters, but is most redolent of white cherries and lychees. The palate shows great length and finesse, with a vibrancy of perfumed fruits such as guava and mandarin, overlaid with a touch of white cherry, sorbet and clove. The wine is succulent and mouth-watering and invites a second glass. This wine will cellar well, slowly developing flavor layers of fresh toast and spice.

Dalrymple Pinot Noir: Berry fruit aromas, hints of fresh cut plums and fine oak spice. The entry onto the palate of soft red fruits with ripe tannin structure support the sense of a warm vintage. Savory notes of dried meats and provencal herbs add to the complexity after opening.

Wirra Wirra Church Block: Deep plum with a scarlet edge. A complex nose that displays the instant appeal and fragrances of Shiraz and Merlot, but is truly driven by the lifted cassis, blackberry and leaf of Cabernet. Dried thyme, sandalwood, cedary oak and earth follow to add layers of interest. The palate rewards instantly, packed with bright berries, dark cherries and generous, deep plum fruits. This fruit sweetness combines with dark chocolate, mocha notes and supple, fine grained tannins to build a full and even palate.

Yalumba Patchwork Shiraz: This wine shows all the hallmarks of Barossa Shiraz in a balanced and restrained package. The fruit aromatics are all about red plum, cherries and savory herbs. This is a medium to full depth wine with balanced fruit concentration. The palate is full of savoriness, texture, black olives and has an evenness flowing from start to finish. This is about being soft and supple yet also rich and textural; an even line of tannins completes the wine.

Jim Barry the Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon: This wine shows a brooding dark red color in the glass. The nose boasts of aromatic blackberry and blue fruits with refined hints of bay leaves and mint. A great line of acidity drives through the wine supporting talcy ripe tannins. Flavors of blackberry and mulberry shine from the medium bodied composition.

Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon: Maroon with a purple tint. A classical savory Cabernet perfume. Vibrant blackcurrant fruit with gravel earth, hints of venison, mushrooms and truffles mingle with a fine sage-like herbal lift. Fragrant spiced oak notes sit beautifully underneath, delivering a touch of classical cedar. A light entrance leads to juicy fruit with bright acidity, with flavors of blackcurrant and woodsy native forest. Shapely as a Cabernet should be, the power starts to build with a fine tannin profile, leaving a lengthy dry, linear finish.

Yalumba Y Series Shiraz: Deep crimson purple in color, this wine shows intense youthful aromas of dark, ripe cherries, Christmas pudding, Indian spice and dark chocolate. The palate is rich and ripe and embodies a classic South Australian Shiraz, with layers of ripe blackberries and Christmas cake, surrounded by soft, juicy, ripe tannins.

Yalumba Antique Reserve Tawny Port: Deep tawny with green tinges around the edges indicating prolonged aging in wood. Intense wood aged rancio featuring dried fruits, chocolate and caramel. Elegant brandy spirit adds sweet vanillin and oak complexity. Rich and soft in the middle. Complex rancio flavours with persistent nutty caramel aftertaste. Fine spirit characters balance the sweetness producing an elegant drying finish.
