The Wines

LaLuca Prosecco: The wine pours an almost translucent bright yellow, with hints of green reflecting off the glass. The nose is instantly defined and distinctive, offering up bold orchard fruits, crisp pears, and lemon curd, all of which come together in a rich, creamy off-dry style that is extremely appealing. There is a deft touch of minerality, playing nicely against the subtle sweetness of the wine. The finish shows excellent length and fine overall balance.

LaLuca Rose: Salmon in color, with a bright pink core. Aromas of strawberries, cranberry, hibiscus and freshly baked bread are intertwined with a bouquet of citrus and sweet spice. This refreshing, well-balanced, light, crisp and juicy sparking rosé has bright acidity and a clean, off-dry finish. Serve before or after dinner, and alongside fried calamari, vegetable fritto misto, or salty cheeses. Drink immediately and over the next 12 months.

Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs: The 2015 Blanc de Blancs has bright aromas of apple, tropical fruit and baked bread, which intermingle with hints of lemon blossom, vanilla wafer and baked pear. Candied citrus, green apple, apricot, and pineapple vibrate on the palate, which ends clean and refreshing with a quenching drive.

While this wine can be enjoyed by itself as an apéritif, it is also perfect with fresh oysters and other shellfish, crab cakes, ceviche and grilled sea bass. It is also delicious with lemon chicken and Thai curries. Serve with aged Gouda or other hard cheeses, and as a counterpoint to soft triple creams.

The character of the wine is most strongly influenced by bright, flavorful Pinot Noir grown in Carneros, Anderson Valley, and the Sonoma and Marin coastal areas. A few small lots of Pinot Noir are fermented in contact with their skins to add depth and subtle color to this unique sparkling wine. Chardonnay gives spice, structure and length on the palate.
