This week we are featuring New Holland Brewing Dragon’s Milk White Bourbon Barrel Aged White Stout. This beer challenges your preconceptions as to what a “white stout” is. Normally, Jack thinks of light colored ale given stout qualities by other means like chocolate, or coffee. This white stout gets its body from the bourbon barrel making it thicker than expected. Try it as the Beer of the week!
Winemakers Notes: Antigal Uno Malbec offers delicious plums, strawberries and blackberry flavors with enticing hints of violets, vanilla, and milk chocolate. Brightened by carefully protected natural acidity, this violet-red intense wine is surprisingly versatile at the dining table.
90 Point Wine Spectator: Well-structured, with rich flavors of dried raspberry and cherry tart accented by beefy notes. The minerally finish is refined and well-spiced.
On Sale Thru 08/07: $14.99
Winemaker’s Notes: From a single vineyard in the lower Casablanca Valley, this site is less than fifteen miles from the Pacific Ocean. Optimum growing conditions allow for the slow ripening of the Sauvignon Blanc, ensuring bright aromas, good concentration, and crisp acidity.
90 Point James Suckling: A bright but smoky sauvignon blanc with plenty of nice citrus character, this is refreshing and well balanced with quite a long, crisp finish.
On Sale Thru 08/07: $11.99
Winemakers Notes: Jorio is Umani Ronchi’s selected Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC. It was created in the mid-nineties to express the great potential of this varietal, in collaboration with fanatically dedicated Abruzzese winegrowers with vineyards in particularly favorable areas for its growth. The name of the wine is intended as a tribute to the great twentieth-century Abruzzese poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, who made his wild, provincial native soil into a “barbaric” novelty, exciting and transgressive, with which he stirred and won the public’s favor.
On Sale Thru 7/31: $16.99
Winemaker’s Notes: From our selected vineyards the grapes of Tempranillo & Syrah are fermented in 16-Hectoliter egg-shaped concrete tanks below 17°C/62°F to obtain this wonderful rosé. Then it is aged for 4 months in French oak barrels with the aim to produce a smooth and round mouth-feel. Notes of tart red plum, cherry and cranberry are evident on the nose. The well-integrated oak gives hints of nuts, toast and ripe creamy weight, apricot and peach fruit and an orange-peel savory finish.
On Sale Thru 07/31: $14.99
With notes of chocolate, and caramel brown ales fill the niche when you want something dark but not quite ready for a full blown stout. Slightly chewy, with a moderate hop presence. This style is relatively underestimated, but deserves to be revisited. Cigar City’s Maduro Brown ale is a great example of the style. That’s why it’s the beer of the week.
