2014 Jackson Estate Chardonnay
California-Santa Maria Valley

Winemaker’s Notes: The chilly climate and very long growing season allows the grapes to retain a high natural acidity, while the narrow diurnal temperatures of the growing season results in extraordinarily flavorful grapes. Rich and creamy in golden mango, pineapple, yellow peach and honeysuckle flower flavors, with oak barrel aging bringing notes of buttered biscuits and vanilla bean to the palate and finish.

91 Points Wine Enthusiast: Broad and warm notes of light butter, baked yellow apples, cracked apricot and sliced nectarine are lifted by lime-peel tension on the fresh nose of this bottling. Preserved lemon and toasted almond flavors show once sipped, framed by a creamy mouth-feel and tartness provided by orange bitters.

90 Points Wine Spectator: Smooth and creamy with spicy pineapple fruit and toasty oak; supple and showing vanilla creme brúlée; lush and balanced.

Jackson Estate Cab2013 Jackson Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
California-Alexander Valley

Winemaker’s Notes: This Cabernet shows mountain intensity in its rich blackberry, black currant and cassis flavors. It’s bone dry, with thick but refined long tannins, and brightened by a burst of fruit and acidity. Blended with a little Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot for complexity, it drinks beautifully now, and will age for a decade or longer.

Blend: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot, 1.7% Cabernet Franc, 0.3% Merlot

91-94 Points Robert Parker: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Jackson Estate Series is a small cuvée of 7,000 cases and a really impressive wine. The mountain vineyards seem to dominate the wine’s character, with moderately high but sweet tannin, briary blackberry and cassis fruit, and a crushed rock minerality present. The final blend was 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest the other Bordeaux varietals. This wine was about ready to go into the bottle right after I tasted it. Range: 91-94

91 Points Antonio Galloni: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Jackson Estate (Alexander Valley) is terrific. A host of mocha, black cherry, gravel, smoke, dark raspberry jam and dark spices meld together in the glass. The 2013 is dark, imposing and structured, with fabulous depth and intensity. Gravel, smoke and game reappear on the back end.

Cycles Galdiator Pinot Noir2014 Cycles Gladiator Pinot Noir
California-Central Coast

Winemaker’s Notes: Dark cherry aromas with hints of raspberry and graham cracker on the nose. Kind of like Carneros Pinot. A complex array of red fruit compote in the mouth. Plum, cherry, and melba toast wrap around the tongue which gives way to pomegranate acidity well into the finish. This wine would pair quite well with any game fowl, a hearty risotto, or pork tenderloin.

Retail: $12.99
On Sale Thru 6/7: $10.99

Hess Shirttail Chardonay Photo2015 Hess Shirtail Chardonnay

Winemaker’s Notes: Fermented in stainless to emphasize the fruit, classic coastal aromas and flavors of lemon zest and lime layer alongside tropical influences and mango, with a touch of green apple. Medium-bodied but crisp and refreshing, it’s wonderful as an apéritif to start a meal, or alongside every course. This Chardonnay complements tangy, spicy foods and offsets the richness of creamier foods as well.

Retail: $14.99
On Sale Thru 5/31: $12.49
