line-street-logoA hoppy pilsner with great flavor and a not-so-menacing ABV. This brew pours a bright and deep yellow with a pleasant, light citrus aroma. Our twist on a Czech pils using Centennial and Mandarina Bavaria hops, this beer has a crisp, refreshing bitterness up front that fades into a dry, palate quenching finish. Bright, crisp and hop forward – that’s Line Street Pils.

midnight-oilMidnight Oil will wake up your senses. We brew a traditional English oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted organic fair trade coffee while this ale is cold conditioned. Cold extraction imparts an intense coffee aroma and flavor without the bitter oils using heat processing techniques.

ph-prisoner-the-prisoner2013 The Prisoner Wine Company Blindfold
California

Winemaker’s Notes: The wine opens up with alluring aromas of freshly peeled mandarin orange, peach nectar, and honeydew melon. Hints of white citrus blossom, marzipan and toasted hazelnut add a nice layer of complexity. On the palette, the wine has a rich creamy entry that is balanced by bright acidity and minerality. These characteristics carry through to the finish with flavors of lime zest and toasted marshmallow.

90 Points Robert Parker: A blend of 30% Chardonnay, 20% Viognier, 20% Roussanne and the balance Grenache Blanc, Chenin Blanc and a few other grapes, the 2013 Proprietary White Blindfold is close in quality to the brilliant 2012 I reviewed last year. Reminiscent of some of Sine Qua Non’s white wines from California’s Central Coast, the 2013 is more zesty, and plays it closer to the vest, but it offers lovely notes of fresh pineapple, tangerine skins, orange marmalade, melon and honeysuckle. I wish more California wineries would consider using such innovative blends as this given the high quality that can result. This beauty should be enjoyed over the next several years.

ph-talbott-sleepy-hollow2012 Tablott Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay
California-Santa Lucia Highlands

Winemaker’s Notes: This wine has aromas of pear and green apple, complemented by French oak and toasty brioche notes. On the palate, it is lush and elegant, with a creamy mouthfeel and flavors of white peach and pear. Round oak tannins are perfectly balanced by acidity, and there is a long finish that builds over time. The Sleepy Hollow Vineyard defines this wine, with power, richness, and bright acidity.

92 Points Stephen Tanzer: Pale gold. Poached pear, Meyer lemon, buttered toast and white flowers on the deeply perfumed nose. Smooth, open-knit orchard fruit and orange flavors stain the palate, picking up a smoky nuance with aeration. Shows excellent clarity and punch on the mineral-tinged finish, which leaves suave floral and citrus fruit notes behind.

Retail: $42.99
On Sale Through 10/31: $34.99

ph-corvidae-lenore2013 Owen Roe Corvidae Lenore Syrah
Washington-Columbia Valley

Winemaker’s Notes: Sourced from several vineyards throughout the Yakima Valley and the Horse Heaven Hills, Lenore Syrah shows the more opulent and balanced vintage with its fruit forward attack and rounded, rich mid-palate texture. Aging in predominately neutral French oak maintains the bright berry and savory aromatics of this wild, gamey varietal. Pair this crowd pleasing wine with barbecued babyback ribs, a hearty lamb stew or your favorite burger. Of course she’s a beauty on her own as well.

Retail: $17.99
On Sale Through 10/31: $14.99

ph-spellbound-petite-sirah2013 Spellbound Petite Sirah
California

Winemaker’s Notes: Intensity of color, rich black and brambly fruits, vanilla bean and roasting coffee aromatics are complemented by remarkable approachability in the 2013 Spellbound Petite Sirah. The wine is crafted to unleash dark and luscious characteristics, while managing tannins to deliver an opulent and juicy Petite Sirah. This lush yet easy-drinking wine provides intense berry character, with superb texture you will fine in none other than Spellbound Petite Sirah

90 Points Robert Parker: The real star, and a sleeper selection for sure, is the outstanding 2013 Petite Sirah. This wine has an inky, ruby/purple color, notes of cassis, blueberry, blackberry fruit, incense and camphor.

Retail: $14.99
On Sale Through 10/31: $11.99

ph-corviade-rook2013 Owen Roe Corvidae Rook
Washington-Columbia Valley

Winemaker’s Notes: Showing red and black fruits, sarsaparilla, orange peel, cinnamon and tobacco, this crisply textured red is balanced by fine grained tannins and a rich, pillow soft mid-palate.

Retail: $17.99
On Sale Through 10/31: $14.99

ph-prisoner-the-prisoner2014 The Prisoner Wine Company Prisoner Red
California

Winemaker’s Notes: Bold aromas of black cherry and plum are heightened by hints of oak and Madagascar vanilla. A soft and velvety palate of anise, dark cocoa powder and roasted sage lead into a dense finish with luscious tannins.

91 Points Wine Spectator: Plump and jammy, with a solid core of structure. Aromas of huckleberry and spicy mocha combine with supple flavors of raspberry and cherry plus cinnamon and pepper. Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Charbono. Drink now through 2023.

Retail: $42.99
On Sale Through 10/31: $36.99

ph-alvear-carlos-viiAlvear Carlos VII Amontillado
Spain-Montilla Moriles

Winemaker’s Notes: Light chestnut bright gold color. Pungent and complex bouquet, inimitable nutty and dried fig deep flavor and character, both soft and strong. Silky dry on palate with a long, complex and elegant finish.

Literally, Amontillado means “in the style of Montilla.” Our Carlos VII is an Amontillado that has been aging for more than 15 years in our traditional “Solera System” during and after the flor, gaining complexity and full round aromas while retaining the freshness of its origins as a Fino. An harmonious blend of finesse, elegance and age.

90 Points Robert Parker: The NV Amontillado Carlos VII has a medium/dark color, notes of toffee, roasted nuts and coffee, but finishes dry with great acidity and penetrating almond-paste-like flavors. This is pretty impressive and the Solera that is the base of this cuvée is at least 15 years of age.

91 Points Wine Spectator: Takes a dry, taut approach from the start, with singed orange peel and bitter almond notes lining the green tea, dried passion fruit, Earl Grey tea and toasted parchment paper flavors. The long finish shows nice tension.

91 Wine Enthusiast: Maple, toffee and leather aromas combine nicely on a nutty, driving bouquet. The palate feels narrow and compact, with pointed flavors of saline, nuts and dried apricot. Finishes with power. Made from the Pedro Ximenez grape, not the more common Palomino.
